Tip: Since the price per carat increases in steps at various critical weights, you can save a lot of money by purchasing a diamond with a carat weight just before the break. For example, a 1.45 carat diamond looks similar to a 1.50 carat diamond, but costs significantly less.
Some weights are also in more limited supply than others, and thus have a higher price per carat. Rare carat weight diamonds include the 0.67 carat diamond and the 1.25 carat diamond. These technicalities do not actually affect the appearance of the diamond significantly; the best way to find value buys is thus to avoid buying diamonds of these rare carat weights.
